How Rolls-Royce Solved Its Trent 1000 Issues - Simple Flying

Engine blades are crafted by Rolls-Royce engineers using an ancient form of metalworking to create a single-crystal structure that is incredibly strong, and still incredibly light. Casting has been around for millennia, but at the Rolls-Royce Advanced Blade Casting Facility (ABCF), this traditional craft is elevated to levels akin to science fiction. Here, engineers set about rearranging the metal alloys at an atomic level to eliminate microscopic grain boundaries that could make the blades, eventually, fail. //

To maintain the integrity of the metals in the blades, they are coated with a low conductivity ceramic, and cool air is fed around the blades via tiny cooling holes. The ‘cool’ air is actually around 600 °C , so not that cool really, but relatively cool enough to make a difference. Speaking to The Engineer in 2017, Rolls-Royce chief of materials, Neil Glover, explained,

“It passes through the cooling channels and exits through a myriad of holes in the surface of the blade, to create an envelope of cool air around the blade. So the metal is never above its melting point, even though the environment is.” //

The efforts of this company to resolve the situation have been nothing short of incredible. Even with the impact of COVID, and the huge loss of revenue Rolls-Royce has suffered as a result of fewer widebodies flying, it stuck to its promise and fixed the problem for good. Now isn’t that something worth making some noise about?

Make win10 taskbar buttons `Never combine, hide labels` · GitHub

Make win10 taskbar buttons Never combine, hide labels Normally, this option isn't available //

These registry values are later read and translated into a hide bit and combine bit by explorer.exe. The function responsible for that translation looks like ... //

Now, we'd like to "Never combine, hide labels", one way to achieve this is to modify the bits set by one of the existing options, which is what I've done. Changing the instruction

explorer.exe+575ED - BB 01000000 - mov ebx,00000001

to

explorer.exe+575ED - BB 02000000 - mov ebx,00000002

This replaces the option Combine when taskbar is full with the behavior we want.

2-3 second lag in response time - Pale Moon forum

This sounds like a typical problem of visiting a site that does dynamic updates of content but never actually reloads the document, leaks all over the place, and combined with leaving the browser open ON such pages for days or weeks (and even restored sessions may have bloat in the saved viewers), making the garbage and cycle collectors run out of headroom. The pauses in that case are caused by non-incremental GC/CC runs trying to recover resources but failing because the websites are such slobs that they keep a lot of resources locked.

A restart of the browser would fix this kind of thing, so if you changed extensions and issued a restart as a result, that would clear the problem. Even disabling a restartless extension could temporarily alleviate the issue giving you a red herring because it would give the browser a little extra headroom -- until that fills up too and you end up back under memory pressure (heap memory is usually not the problem here, but stack memory would be and that is limited) with the collectors trying their best to recover and failing to make a dent, then trying again, etc.

To analyse this kind of thing, about:memory reports usually give a good indication of the culprit sites. In a more limited fashion, about:performance -might- help too but if you're dealing with ghost windows or out of bounds allocations of resources it may not have anything to show.

The Feds Are Forced to Release January 6th Surveillance Footage and Narratives Crumble – RedState

Why has the federal government been trying so hard to keep surveillance footage of January 6th under wraps? We may have an answer to that question if a set of newly released videos are any indication.

A judge ordered the videos be released against the wishes of the government prosecutors who claimed doing so would undermine national security. Of course, that makes no sense, and what’s on the videos runs counter to the chosen narrative.

Behold, the event that has been compared to the Civil War by the President of the United States.

If you can’t watch the video, what you’ll see are open doors/windows and people casually walking in. There’s no mad rush, no violence, no weapons, and certainly no organized insurrection. Instead, people mingle, take selfies, and snap pictures of the surrounding architecture. Yes, it’s trespassing and that’s illegal, but what’s on that video is a far cry from the vast threat we’ve been assured was present that day. Does it look like Congressional members were about to be murdered?

windows 7 - Is there any way to hide taskbar labels and not combine taskbar buttons? - Super User

Set taskbar options

  1. Open Taskbar properties.
  2. In the "Taskbar Appearance" group, change the "Taskbar Button" option to "Never combine" if you don't want stacking.

Adding/editing the registry entry

  1. Press Windows Key + R to open the run command
  2. Type int "regedit" (without quotes) and press OK
  3. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Control Panel -> Desktop -> WindowMetrics
  4. Find the "MinWidth" entry.
  5. If it is not there, right click on an empty space and select New -> String Value. Name this entry "MinWidth" (without quotes)
  6. Double click on the MinWidth entry. If you want just the buttons to show, set this to 38 if you're using small buttons, 52 if you're using large buttons (or 54 in Windows 8). Otherwise any value above 38 will work. If you set a value below 38, the buttons will behave oddly. If your main display (on Windows 8.1 or later) has non-standard DPI (e.g. it's Retina or 4k display) you might need to multiply these numbers by the factor of 1.25, 1.5 or 2. Otherwise buttons will shrink / animate incorrectly.
  7. Log off and log back in or restart to see the changes.

Deleting/Uninstalling

  1. Press Windows Key + R to open the run command
  2. Type int "regedit" (without quotes) and press OK
  3. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Control Panel -> Desktop -> WindowMetrics
  4. Find the "MinWidth" entry and delete it.
  5. Log off and log back in or restart to see the changes.
Biden's New Move on Haitian Illegal Immigrants Has the Left Raging – RedState

Biden admin seeks contractor to run migrant detention facility at Gitmo
nbcnews.com //

A little-known immigrant holding facility on the base has a capacity of 120 people, the records say, and it “will have an estimated daily population of 20 people,” according to a solicitation for bids issued Friday by the Department of Homeland Security.

This is clearly not meant to do anything to help with the current surge of illegal immigration at the border. 120 people is a drop in the bucket and won’t make a dent. That’s why I suspect this is just a stopover for repatriation flights or perhaps very high-risk detainees.
