[HowTo] Hide library items based on file share - HowTo - OSMC Forums

I was looking for a method to hide 4k video in a shared MySQL library on clients that did not support that format. I was hoping that there was a tag based way to accomplish this, but I could not find one. The method I did find was to use Kodi’s Media source locking in the Parental controls. The way this works is that you have a separate source for each media type you want to hide, and when you lock a source, all of the media in that source is hidden from everywhere in the library. This works an individual profile basis so what you do on one machine or user profile does not affect any others. This can also be used for other applications such as hiding certain movies from a child’s user profile or similar applications. The hidden state of the media can also be easily turned on or off from the power menu so there may be applications even for a single profile, single machine application.

Yikes: The New Yorker Gives a Platform for Advocating 'How to Blow up a Pipeline' – RedState

So, exactly why is The New Yorker giving a huge platform to this person who is advocating criminal actions to further his political aims? They’re not just reporting on it; they’re actually asking the question: should one engage in “intelligent sabotage?” as though this is a rational choice. Apparently, violence and crime is okay — if it jibes with the political cause that you embrace.

For those keeping track at home, both the New Yorker and the New York Times are debating and soft endorsing terror acts against national pipelines in the name of climate. //

I'm pretty sure "sabotage" is still a crime and "How to blow up a pipeline" might be part of a "conspiracy" or being an "accessory".

Perhaps you've got some "informants" who might be able to infiltrate The @NewYorker or you might even consider some proactive steps.

Film closest to Kodachrome?

clumsy stranger [deleted] says:
As the stocks of Kodachrome dwindle and processing become more difficult, what film in your view comes closest as a replacement?

No, Kodachrome is unique - there's no process like it, nothing with its archival quality for colours.

Have they stopped manufacturing it then? I have about 5 rolls of 64 in the freezer...

Right now I don't have the sorts of scenes that are best for its use. It is best for family holidays and trips to the sea. It's the colour of memory.

This is the best study I have seen of different films on the same subject.

Mechanical Gifs

Transparently Obvious
mechanical gifs are Physical Models you can hold in your hand

My mechanical gifs are not animated gifs of the kind you find all over the internet. Instead they are real, physical objects that serve the same purpose. They help you understand how common and uncommon machines, mechanisms, gadgets, and devices work. You can hold them in your hand and put them through their paces as fast or as slow as you like until it all makes sense. There is no substitute for the physical intuition this sort of hands-on experience gives you.

They are are also fun, beautiful, and make great gifts. They are, in short, giftable gifs!

Each model is laser-cut from crystal clear acrylic and assembled by you using the included nuts, bolts, and tools. Online assembly videos make it easy to get everything put together and working. The models work smoothly, with the satisfying sound of precision-cut, high-quality materials.

How The Tupolev Tu-104 Became The Jet That Nearly Defeated The West | International Aviation HQ

Designed to bring the Soviet Union into the jet era, the story of the Tupolev Tu-104 is a story of what could’ve been. A story of how the Soviet Union could’ve proven the virtues of communism over capitalism, all whilst embarrassing the West on the international stage!

Although it was the only operational jet airliner between 1956 and 1958, it was only the second jet airliner to enter service, after Britain’s de Havilland Comet, which entered service in 1952 (and was later grounded between 1956 and 1958 due to structural defects). //

Given the requirements that this jet airliner had to be capable of 25,000 to 30,000 flight hours, cruise at 750 km/h (470 mph; 400 kn) and carry 50 passengers, Tupolev began designing Aeroflot’s dream airliner.

Wary of history repeating itself – the de Havilland Comet had been grounded for two years due to structural defects – Tupolev eventually decided against designing an airliner from scratch and instead used their famed Tu-16 bomber as a start point.

Keeping the wing, control surfaces and engines (the Mikulin AM-3) of the Tu-16, the primary obstacle facing Tupolev engineers was a complete redesign of the Tu-16’s fuselage. //

Completing this by early 1955, Tupolev had the first prototype completed by June that year and was first flown on June 17, piloted by Tupolev test pilot Captain Y. T. Alasheev and First Officer B. M. Timoshok.

About | Dwayne's Photo

Founded in 1956, Dwayne’s Photo has been a leader in the film processing industry for over 60 years. Owing to the passion and stubbornness of our founder, Dwayne’s has always been a leader in misfit and neglected products in the photographic industry. We love processing old and rare films, and have built our legacy around being the last in the industry to do it.
‍
It was this same spirit in 2010 that gained Dwayne’s international notoriety as the only lab on earth to process Kodak’s famed Kodachrome film. These events were later featured in Netflix’s movie Kodachrome.

Spacecraft Could Make Their Own Landing Pads as They Descend onto the Lunar Surface - autoevolution

Masten Space Systems, which is developing a unique technology that could help spacecraft safely land on the lunar surface. //

To reduce the risk of getting pieces of sharp rock flying at such incredible speeds, Masten's in-Flight Alumina Spray Technique (FAST) landing pads will use ceramic particles injected into the rocket's plumes. That will produce a coating over the regolith as the lander descends toward the lunar surface. In turn, the particles collide with the surface and solidify to build up a secure landing pad.

This implies that spacecraft can land safely anywhere on the Moon without the requirement for a prior mission to build a landing pad.

The Elements by Theodore Gray

My book The Elements is based on photographs I've been collecting at my website periodictable.com for many years. The website includes not just pictures, but also more detailed descriptions than we could fit in the book, and most importantly, it includes full 360-degree rotating videos of almost all the objects. You really won't find this kind of resources anywhere else for any other subject, so please enjoy.

If you don't have the book yet, please don't think this is page is a substitute for the real thing. Aside from the fact that people buying the book (and my other photo periodic table products) is what pays for me being able to continue hosting the website, there's really no substitute for a paper book in your hands. The book also makes a fabulous gift, and you can't give a website as a gift!

Obesity and weight loss: Processed carbs, not calories, may be key
  • Conventional scientific opinion has attributed weight gain to a net surplus of calories due to burning fewer calories than taking in.
Opposing this view, the carbohydrate-insulin model states that diet quality matters more for weight loss than total calorie intake.
  • The model posits that the intake of processed carbohydrates and starchy foods leads to changes in the levels of insulin and other hormones, subsequently resulting in increased fat deposition.
  • The increased fat deposits lead to hunger and consumption of more calorie-rich foods leading to obesity.
  • The model suggests that avoiding processed carbohydrates and starchy foods may be necessary to lose weight instead of restricting calories. //

A recent article published in theAmerican Journal of Clinical NutritionTrusted Source provides a comprehensive description of the CIM, along with testable hypotheses that may help clarify the precise changes in nutrition necessary to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.

The article’s first author Dr. David Ludwig, told Medical News Today, “If the CIM is right, then the conventional approach to weight loss, the low-calorie diet, is likely to fail for most people over the long term. We argue that people have more control over what they eat than how much. A focus on reducing processed carbohydrates, rather than calorie restriction, may be more effective by lowering the biological drive to store excessive fat.” //

The glycemic index (GI) rates carbohydrates according to how rapidly they raise blood glucose levels after someone has eaten them. The glycemic load is another measure that provides more comprehensive information about the surge in blood sugar levels by considering the GI and amount of carbohydrates a serving of a given food provides.

Consumption of processed and starchy foods that contain rapidly digestible carbohydrates results in a surge in blood glucose levels. Foods with a high glycemic load include processed grains, potato products, and foods with high free sugarsTrusted Source content. Free sugars are all types of sugars that do not occur naturally in whole fruits and vegetables.

In contrast, fats and proteins have a negligible impact on blood sugar levels, whereas fresh whole fruits, minimally processed grains, legumes, nuts, and nonstarchy vegetables typically have a low or moderate glycemic load.

The rapid surge in glucose levels after consuming high glycemic load foods results in the secretion of insulin, which regulates blood sugar levels and helps the muscles, liver, and adipose or fat tissue absorb glucose.
