CDkeys essentially purchases tens of thousands of games in third-world countries, scans the keys and then sells the scanned versions in first-world countries. In doing this, they pay local taxes for all their game purchases, whichever country it may be. However, if they never import the physical copies of these games to the U.S, then the question arises whether they are paying import taxes to the United States. They may be importing just photos of scanned keys, but as a single scanned key can be worth $60 or more, it’s difficult to say whether these photos should be subject to import taxes or not.

All in all, though, I have to say that CDkeys is more legally legitimate than almost every other third-party key reseller. They don’t trade stolen keys, they don’t buy out celebrities, and they state their business practices clearly on their website. //

The CDkeys terms and conditions clearly state that they “accept no refunds or returns”, and that they are “not responsible for any loss or damage resulting from lost or stolen programs or use without permission”. This means that you have no real guarantee or warranty for your purchase.

If you want a 100% safe and risk-free purchase, then your only real option is to purchase retail.

Whether or not purchasing from retail or from CDkeys is better, is up to you. You should decide whether the risk is worth it or not

1. Not all "radioactive" waste is the same.

Amongst the amount of radioactive waste generated by nuclear power, research, medical and a few others activities, there are different kind of waste, distinguished by their activity and their half life.

I'm most familiar with the French classification, so I'll use that one, but countries usually account for this is similar ways.

High Activity waste represent 0.2% of the volume and 94.9% of the radioactivity.

Medium Activity with long half life represent another 2.9% fo the volume and 4.9% of the activity.

The volume in France of those two categories is 4 000 + 42 000 m3. If you spread these on a football field, it raises up to 7 meters. That's the waste for the whole country.

The remainder usually is composed of shorter half life (<31 years) and medium activity, low and very low activity waste, and very short half life stuff that you can keep in storage until they get inert.

Dealing with those is significantly easier. (And generally no worse than dealing with normal industrial waste, of which we have significantly larger volumes).

2. Proper underground storage is a reliable way to deal with High Level Waste.

The underground storage projects are not stupid dig how, bury, forget process. They are designed using serious geology studies, including what can be learn from the Oklo natural reactor that ran 2 billions years ago.

The vitrified waste is in such a form that water has to actually dissolve the glass to free-up the waste (that's not happening very fast, especially given that there are a few barriers before water even comes into contact with the glass), and the storage is built in low permeability rocks were water barely flows at all. As such by the time water manages to dissolve some amount of waste, it usually has decreased significantly and gets diluted to homeopathic doses by the time it gets anywhere near surface.

Von Neumann wrote an interesting essay open-mindedly discussing how the concept of mathematical (and scientific) rigour has changed many times. He himself jokes that he had changed his mind about it three times!

So it’s worth noting that even the idea of what constitutes mathematical rigour can and does evolve.

As he points out, too, the prevailing view of physicists in the 20th century came to be that a theory was a good theory if it either unified a set of previously disparate laws, or made predictions outside of existing observations that were then empirically validated. ie the idea that “physical laws” or theoretical models answer the “why” questions in a deep philosophical sense does not feature. (Hence the famous video where Feynman lectures the interviewer for asking a “why” question about magnetism.) That mindset does not preclude inserting terms into models where necessitated by the empirical facts. The resulting equations are merely our best models. //

One of our early exercises in calculus / physics was the Newtonian version of the same effect. Basically as you descend into the Earth (assuming even distribution - close enough) gravitational attraction from any mass at a greater radius than you cancels out. Shoots the Hollow Earth people all to pieces - in Freshman year.
