P&T selected Cummins DKSH Myanmar for the design and commissioning of the project. Using eightHSK78G Cummins HSK78G natural gas generator sets as the prime power source, our team and P&T met the scope requirements while providing operational cost savings due to the compact 12-cylinder design versus the 20-cylinder design of competing products in the market. This compact design reduced operational costs as the generators need 40% fewer spark plugs and cylinders, lower fuel and lube oil consumption, which in turn helps the HSK78G achieve the industry’s longest major overhaul service cycle of 80,000 hours. //

The IPP sites are currently being operated with Cummins PowerCommand® Digital Master Controller 8000 (DMC8000), seamlessly integrated to provide higher efficiency through demand load management. The power controller is built to order and was customized to best meet the requirements of the project. Designed for resiliency and factory tested for over a thousand disruptive scenarios, it is an ideal addition to this project’s remote power solution.

We would like to specifically stress an extremely dangerous trend that goes beyond the harmless use of outer space technologies and has become apparent during the latest developments in Ukraine. Namely, the use by the United States and its allies of civilian, including commercial, infrastructure elements in outer space for military purposes. Apparently, these States do not realize that such actions in fact constitute indirect participation in military conflicts. Quasi-civilian infrastructure may become a legitimate target for retaliation. Western actions needlessly put at risk the sustainability of peaceful space activities, as well as numerous social and economic processes on Earth that affect the well-being of people, first of all in developing countries. At the very least, this provocative use of civilian satellites is questionable under the Outer Space Treaty, which only provides for the peaceful use of outer space, and must be strongly condemned by the international community.

This is not the first time Vorontsov has made such comments, as he made similar remarks last month to the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs working group. However, it is not clear to what extent Russia might be able to follow through on its threat to target commercial satellites.

Cities where US embassies installed air monitors saw improved air quality. //

In 2008, the United States embassy in Beijing installed an air-quality monitor and started tweeting out its findings every hour. Since then, these monitors have popped up in more than 50 embassies in countries and cities around the globe.

Something unexpected happened in each of the cities in which the monitors appeared. Researchers found that, overall, air quality improved in the cities where embassies were tweeting out air-quality data. “We were surprised,” Akshaya Jha, assistant professor of economics and public policy at Carnegie Mellon University and one of the paper’s authors, told Ars.
