I'm Getting an Error When Trying to Play Realms with a Child Account
Your friends at Minecraft Support have been seeing lots of questions from players who are recieving COPPA or GDPR messaging when trying to access Realms. You might also see a very vague message about privacy (we're working on this, we swear!).
There are a whole lot of things we need you to do before we can give kids online and multiplayer access. The account will need to have to have Xbox Clubs, multiplayer, and online communication turned on in order to play AND Xbox live gold to play any multiplayer. You should also probably make sure your account payment method has been updated.
Here's another article about setting up your Xbox Live or Microsoft Account if you haven't done that part yet.
Here's what to do to Enable Realms
- Log in to https://account.xbox.com/settings with the parent Microsoft account
- Click on the child account's profile.
- Click on "Xbox One/Windows 10 Online…" & choose "allow" for "Join multiplayer games" AND "You can create and join clubs" (picture 1 below)
- To enable chat for people not on the person's friends list, they will need to click on privacy and enable "others can communicate..." (picture 2 below)
