Guide to make a Perfect Windows 10 ISO
Guide to make a Perfect Windows 10 ISO
As you all know, LTSB (Long Term Servicing Branch) Edition of Windows 10 is best
Windows ever available. It has no Store client, you don't get any of the
preinstalled universal apps, such as Mail/Calendar, OneNote, Photos, Groove
Music, the MSN/Weather/News/Sports/Money apps, and the Camera and Alarms & Clock
apps, making the resulting installation clean.
Downside is that LTSB Editions get only annual feature updates. So the latest
LTSB available is Windows 10 2016 LTSB based on 1607 (RS1). And it takes
another year to get Windows 10 2017 LTSB based on 1703 (RS2/CU) (probably on
October this year). Probably the next edition will be Windows 10 LTSB 2019, that
sucks.
However, we can make our own Windows 10 ISO almost identical to LTSB and better
than the Original version using this toolkit MSMG. In the whole process, we will
be removing the unnecessary packages listed in the Benefits section prior to
installation of Windows.
Let's dig in.
Requirements:
Windows 10 Creators Update ISO Image (Any edition will do). MSMG
Toolkit
Benefits:
Windows 10 without garbage extras like Metro Apps, Biometrics, OneDrive,
Telemetry, Skype, Xbox & Gaming, Contact Support App, Cortana & Search App,
Desktop File Explorer App, Embedded Features, Geo Location, Home Group, Mixed
Reality, Quick Assist App, Take Test App.
Procedure:
Download and Extract the MSMG
Toolkit Toolkit to
a folder.
Download the Windows 10 ISO image and extract the contents(sub-folders) of it to
the DVD folder of where you extracted the MSMG Toolkit.
Right click the MSMG Toolkit's .cmd file and run it as Administrator.
Choose Source - Press number 1, then choose Select Source from <DVD> folder -
Press number 1.
Now go to Remove - Press number 4, then choose Remove Default Metro Apps - Press
number 1, Now choose either All Apps - Press number 3 or All Apps except Store
App - Press number 4 or Any individual app - Press corresponding alphabet
Go to Remove - Press number 4, then choose Remove Default Metro Apps
Associations - Press number 2.
Go to Remove - Press number 4, then choose Remove Components - Press number 3,
Now choose the option either All Windows Components - Press number 1 or Any
desired option - Press corresponding alphabet. If you want to retain some
components then choose the latter option.
Now from the Main menu choose Apply - Press number 6, then choose Apply & Save
Changes to Source Images - Press number 2, this will save the changes we have
made.
Now again go to Main menu choose Apply - Press number 6, then choose Rebuild
Source Images - Press number 1. (This step will compress the ISO size)
And lastly from the Main menu choose Target - Press number 7, then choose Make a
DVD ISO Image - Press number 1, once completed your finished ISO will be located
in the ISO folder of where you extracted the Toolkit. Enjoy ;)
Note: If your ISO has Install.esd file in sources folder then you need to first
convert the ISO Image to Install.wim before doing this process and then start
from Step 4.
